The audio engineer creates the soundtrack for a game. This includes the composing, scoring and recording of music. It includes sound effects (Foley) to support the action in the game, recording of the voices of the characters or spoken instructions or other expressions. It could also be effects such as clapping, crowd noise, engine-noise, the pitter-patter of little feet or drops of rain – or laughter.

We will spend some time working with music and voice control. We will do workshops on composing, interpretation and singing, and there will be ample opportunity to play instruments and sample music.

When working with audio, we aim to provide you with tools to design game sound such that it supports the gameplay and the players’ experience of the game. Sound is a vital part of a game, and you will get an idea of how to make sure the music and sound functions inside a game engine.

The aim is, for you as a student to get a feel for what is required if you want your life and career to move in this direction.
